Before Period White Discharge

from monkeys and shamans

AGAIN IN Pucara it's pretty much up where it left off: It's raining, is relatively cold and very, very gray. What looks like autumn in Germany, the Ecuadorian winter. Fortunately, Julian and I were able to escape this time of year a little uncomfortable!

completely broke after two rainy days in Quito Julian and I on Tuesday afternoon to Baños on this small town about three hours southeast of Quito and is due to its hot springs, popular with (backpack) travelers. Also its location between the Sierra and the Amazon basin has helped him to a regular place on Route Ecuador traveler. We drove down there to escape the winter Quito - and were wetter technically not rewarded. After all, the bike tour led us through the direction of Puyo Pastaza Gorge towards the Amazon lowlands and always offered us great views into the deep cut in the mountain valley. At the end of our tour, we were able to catch even a glimpse of the Amazon level before the rain started and we returned the next bus took to Baños.

went after the small bike it's pretty straight back to Quito. There, a little stressful program was waiting for us: We had our luggage in the hostel to pick up in the city, submit it at the bus company that would later bring us to Lago Agrio, and then drive to the stadium, hoping to get more tickets: of the Ecuadorian national team friendly match against Venezuela was, and we did not let us miss this event!

For ten dollars we have to get tickets for the opposite stand, and while waiting in line in front of the rather lax controls, we were approached by two young Ecuadorians, with which we us well during the game were talking and could be on my next Quitofahrten a contact point, if I am tired of living in hostels. The game began entertaining, and after three minutes was felt there is already two to zero for the gas-imaging team. Until the mid-term, a further goal came for the home team, and after dreiundneunizg minutes it was four to one.

were remarkable, the sellers and sellers in the stadium: Throughout the game they ran through the ranks and praised their wares loudly: beer, soft drinks, empanadas , candy, chips, cigarettes. Otherwise, the atmosphere was rather tepid. The stands were beiweitem not sold out, as in a friendly match and insignificant in these weather conditions, moreover, would have been during the week and in the evening, probably to be expected worldwide.

Later that night Julian and I got on the bus that would bring Trans Esmeraldas, which are oriente in the , more precisely, to Lago Agrio, northeast of the country near the Colombian border. The eight-hour night ride was horrible, the TV is incredibly loud and the film - "Papá se Volvió loco" - incredibly bad. After all: When we arrived the next day at half past six in the morning clock Lago Agrio, the sun shone! And it was warm.

After breakfast We were tourists and twelve picked by Mariana: This should be for the next five days our guide and bring us safely through the jungle. But first were two and a half more hours on the bus. We drove up to the Cuyabeno Bridge, where our luggage and we were transported in motorized canoes. Now it was two hours on the Cuyabeno River downstream to the lodge. Heading the dense green of the jungle was marvel at the brilliant blue of the butterflies, the incessant chirping of birds. Even monkeys, we were able to even see the pink river dolphins as we could. The boat ride through the jungle was exciting: we had water, the Green jungle and the varied soundscape, which provided for the residents surrounding jungle. No power poles, no houses, no roads, no traffic noise. Only the jungle and we!

Our group consisted of ten people. Next to us were a retired teacher and her daughter from Texas, an Australian couple and four volunteers from Australia participated in the tour. A Swede, a German and two German-English women who had previously driven us on the bus to the bridge, had been assigned to another guide. We were housed in a lodge on the banks of the Cuyabeno: Two wooden houses with single and double rooms and a kitchen and dining pavilion, all made of wood and palm leaves cover, made from the whole plant. Two solar panels serve provided the necessary power supply in the kitchen, the rooms had flashlights and candles. The water came out (rain) water tank, water pump was also fed from the solar panels. Apart from the materials used and the type of energy I had was not the impression that the lodge its name could meet: Eco Lodge. Everything we were served during our stay, was purchased in Quito and Lago Agrio geschippert and then by boat through the jungle was! I would not complain: So good I had to date not yet eaten in Ecuador!

The first night went we with our motor canoe, in which the entire group took place at the Laguna Grande for a swim and view the sunset. That was beautiful: A sunset like on a postcard to a cheesy, plus all the strange noises from the trees that grow around the lagoon and in the lagoon!

On the second day, Friday was a walk in the jungle. We got big trees and small mushrooms to see poisonous frogs and colorful insects. Especially the "lemon ants" I found interesting: The tasted of lemon, "said Mariana - and we were all ants on food! Apart from an ant to me in the Tongue biting has been worth the snack, the ants actually tasted like lemon! After just over two hours we came back to the boat to return to drive to the lodge. The walk was one part interesting - on the other hand, I found it strange that we in the jungle on a dirt track running around, at which the medicinal plants lined up like a forest trail. So completely untouched and all this was not wild. But probably it was also very naive to expect something like this: Where there is a lodge and such organized tours, must have a certain tourist infrastructure put in place ...

afternoon we went again equipped with fishing the lagoon, we fished for piranha! Are to Marianas information not so aggressive and dangerous as I had known it from documentation. Of killer machines that devour each swimmer in a few seconds and jump into boats in order to eat the crew can therefore be no question. (We, however, held fast to this idea to lose the thrill is not!) Julian, who had been looking a long time for this program point - I almost think the only reason he came to Ecuador! - Was also the first with a Piraña on the hook! The second catch should be his, but this time a cat fish. All catches were again thrown into the Cuyabeno: Little Piranhas not provide enough meat for human consumption, and the big ones are often infested with parasites, so that may affect the enjoyment of Pirañafleisches heavily on the health of the connoisseur or the connoisseur ...

the sunset we saw again the water: We went into a branch of the Cuyabeno, watch cormorants and other birds and then went to the places where our driver suspected Mariana and caimans. Unfortunately, we should not have the good fortune to be able to see alligators up close. This had two main reasons: the high water level of the river, which allows the lizards to retreat deep into the undergrowth and to the full moon, the reptiles took the cover of darkness and it so it prevented to leave their hiding places.

the Saturday we used to visit a village downstream. We were shown how the yucca bread is made, a kind of tasteless and white pancake and Germany handle unknown. Much more exciting than this rather bizarre, because as routine acting performance - we were not the first group there ... - Was Nacho: This is the monkey of the village! A villager had bought it on the market in Lago Agrio, in order to release him into freedom, which does not seem to correspond to the plans of the young monkeys: He gets food in the village and a lot of attention from tourists, so he lives with the people the preference in the wild. Meanwhile It would be unlikely anyway that Nacho is still capable of surviving in the wild.

In connection to the Yucca bread baking and to the games with Nacho tried Julian, three of the Australians and I are in the football game at too high temperatures against the villagers and our driver. In the end the home team won with a seven to five, and we were completely done. But a dip in the river, also romped in (specified), piranhas, caimans and river dolphins, we could recover to some extent.

The last part of our excursion led us to a shaman. The priority seems to be of ayahuasca ( Yahe ), a potion that hallucinations causes, and to feed guando (angels trumpet) to put up with the animals, plants, earth and sky, and all other related and to be able to detect the diseases of his patients. The fact that he is actually to be found always how we got to know: With feathers, red face paint and lots of chains around his neck, I doubt it. Again, I suspect that tricked for tourists and a little cheating is. Distortion for the authenticity, or something.

An important activity for the shaman are the groups that go down into the jungle to try ayahuasca. A Russian group had all the way to Ecuador to be taken to meet the shaman at the Cuyabeno: The made to the draft in the traditional style, which provided space available, a ceremony led by its customers and administered the decoction. For such a procedure, per person, approximately seventy dollars are required - a considerable sum, deep in the jungle where there are few opportunities to spend money! In or near Otavalo, every year a meeting with three shamans from three countries and as the concomitant Ayahuascasorten. Participation in a meeting that will cost about three thousand dollars - if you're lucky, you get pleasant hallucinations, with a little luck you pass the whole night long.

Mariana has told us a little about their experiences. Ayahuasca was very pleasant, apart from vomiting before the rush. However, that was necessary and arrange for the cleaning of the body. (Symptoms of poisoning of the organism by the drug she did not interpret the vomiting.) The noise there then from a variety of hallucinations, auditory and visual nature. However, it was always able to distinguish between "vision" and reality. After a few hours, the end effect of ayahuasca, could "not be stuck on it. Anders was the angel's trumpet: The very call for strong hallucinations that put many of the rest of life no longer loswürde. Moreover, it could stop the noise twenty-four hours more. The taking of guando is part of the training as shamans.

The Sunday was spent swimming in the river and later in the lagoon. Rain had set in and forced us to spend the day quietly. That was us right - we had become accustomed to our environment and wild monkeys still were not really impress of river dolphins. How fast it goes!

On Monday morning we drove back to the bridge and from there to Lago Agrio. There is a bus to Quito was ready for departure, and we reached the capital at about ten clock in the evening. With the German-English women and with Águeda and Marco, who arrived in the meantime in the jungle and had completed four days with another group a similar program, we went to a nice hostel in the old town, only to go to Ronda allegedly oldest street Ecuador, where we wanted to drink to my birthday which was on Tuesday on the calendar. The task proved more difficult than expected, this time on Monday night had almost no more open bar! After a beer we started already on the way home, the man behind Thresen was closing time. On Tuesday, we adopted

Águeda, which now should be back in Galicia. Also with other travelers we said goodbye. We shot a small trip through the old town, we saw the impressive Compañía de Jesús with their walls and ceilings of gold and then drove to the north of the city. From there we drove the bus to Cayambe, to get from there to Tabacundo. In Tabacundo there is a farm, working on the numerous volunteers. What exactly is their job, I do not know, but the fact is that together we celebrated my birthday with them. I had bought the necessary ingredients for pizza, so we einheizen the pizza oven and the estate could take a delicious dinner for us! After the somewhat dismal start to the Ronda in Quito was my birthday so still a very nice and fun End ...

Wednesdays Julian and I drove to Otavalo and from there to Pucara. There, waiting, I have already mentioned, most terrible fall weather upon us: fog and rain and cold! There are only a few days together in Ecuador before us, on Saturday Julian travels on to Nicaragua. But we will make the most of the remaining time!

Resin Flower Cabochons In Bulk

where the pepper grows ...

After three weeks it secretive for me again Time for a post.
As announced took place two weeks ago Pintaflores the festival and it was something powerful going on in the small San Carlos. There was a large parade of dancers groups in colorful costumes, dancing many, stationed along the way judges in competition. And in the midday sun! In addition, outside the town hall until late into the night concerts played and there was a large firework that was ended by the onset of torrential rain.

have the following week to visit Charlotte and I made together with colleagues on a trip to Bacolod to another biological demonstration farm that we are far ahead in the compost production. We both decided this for the ride in the back of the pick-ups, which are less well padded, but better ventilated and frozen by any air conditioning system. The thing is, that the journey time along the winding highway at least one and a half hours and the driver of the Foundation nicknamed the "Pilot" not by holding otherwise. But the view and the breathtaking night sky on the way back, the rest made bearable.
Last weekend on Saturday there was a large birthday party of another wwf, which was celebrated with national custom karaoke and suckling pig.

The next morning it still managed the most out of the bed along with some fellow teachers at another WWF and some students a trip to waterfalls south of San Carlos to do. Even if the arrival and the running of rice and grilled chicken as food took a while was forget the trouble when we reached the fantastically beautiful destination of the trip.
Surrounded by seemingly nearly pristine rain forest, we came across a small lake which was fed by a waterfall and, as a waterfall, went further. There was also deep enough to jump in from the adjoining rocks, and further up was even a kind of natural Jacuzzi are for one person. We spent the rest of the afternoon there and ate the delicious food brought, his legs dangling in the cool water. And even before we started the way back I had decided to come back in any case ...

Last Wednesday we were offered the opportunity to attend the visit of a staff member of a English NGO to the farmers in more remote areas in the mountains. So we got an insight into how far the concepts of our model farm are effectively implemented and some beautiful farms to face. (Heinz Erhardt would be proud of me:) I also saw
for the first time how and where the pepper grows! The origin of the above proverb, I was able to easily keep track ... But of course there were also a lot of beautiful rice terraces, sugarcane, maize, banana, papaya, cauliflower, broccoli, Melons and even cocoa!

Immediately the next day waiting for the next highlight directly on us. On that day, the inauguration and blessing of the model farm place along with the recently completed Muskovado factory. For this purpose, were not only the officials of local politics and to be financed by NGOs but also the farmers' group head and the Bishop of San Carlos! After a few solemn words of the blessed bishop Finally, every building and every workplace, including our jobs and our rooms.

After that there was a great feast, of course, again blood soup with pork and related.
can add here is still good that I now even most, have tried from a European perspective dubious culinary delights. So I have to eat on feathers and beak pretty much all body parts and organs of a chicken, including feet ("addidas", based on the form), and intestine. But the rest, including bone, I'll take sooner or later to me as "Balut", a duck's egg hatched about 14-18 days, which is sold on the streets at night than a delicacy.
Those are the notable features of recent weeks.
My work in the lab is now up and running all right and some steps are already routine. Apart from the potatoes, I will probably deal next week, with bananas, as some farmers have expressed interest in seedlings. As far as the latest from Negros.

November Rain

ALSO IN ECUADOR there is a right November rains for a week there. The misery began on last Tuesday afternoon with a remarkable rain fell, and initially led to the Círculo de lectores - teatreros with about two hours late began: In the rain, did not trust the children from the houses.

The week was then dramatic, there is little new to report. On Friday I was driving up to Otavalo and met there with Polly and many of the other volunteers. I do not know why, but somehow it happened that we ended up in one of the discos OOtavalos. Salsa, Merengue and Reggaeton everywhere ...

On Saturday I went to Polly to Quito: There should arrive on Sunday Julian. But first, my anticipation for the visit and learned my happiness about the latest football results a damper. In the bus I had when boarding a young man pointed out that I do not my big backpack should stow in the overhead compartment, but under my seat. Said - done. In the bus I fell asleep at some point, when we arrive in Quito, I did nothing wrong. Only in the hostel I found that washing and wallet were missing. Over time, I also noticed the lack of rain poncho, sweater, belt. This is all not so important, with three hundred dollars is already a sum of money, which I did not want to do without necessarily. But annoying is that I fell to the thief who opened quietly a backpack, empty and could close it. Stupid also, that what I have to buy more here now - as with the weather a rain jacket - from the worst quality. Umbrellas, which according three weeks to resolve, rain jackets, the smell only after softening, but adjust to the body much like a suit of armor ...

I hope that I will someday again be asked to pack my backpack under the seat: This is a joke that I have to me more accurate (and meaner) think!

came on Sunday then Julian. The last two hours before that I was good for nothing, especially in high spirits and rather than turning. What is it but also for an event: with a former colleague, Nicaragua and now a very good friend comes to visit me in America and we have two weeks to travel to the country and make it unsafe!

After long trip was understandably exhausted the Lord, so that nothing other than a good dinner was on the program. On Monday we bought our jungle trip, which I will report soon and did not have much else, the rain of Quito made us a spanner in the works. On Tuesday we went to Baños, the approximately six hundred steps climbed to a vantage point up above the town and watched the Súper Clásico , decided the River Plate with one to zero against Boca Juniors for themselves. Today we will take the wheel direction / to Puyo and then start their way back to Quito, where we hope the friendly match between the Ecuadorian and Venezuelan national team could be seen; tickets go on sale on Monday had not yet started ...

Until then - now there's more!

Panniculectomy London Ontario

Question of the doubt

DOUBTS ARE IMPORTANT. And I am convinced that the people who actually manage to live a life without at least questioning at times and occasionally end up in crises of meaning, doing something wrong - as comfortable a life free of doubt may be! On the other hand, too many doubts are probably just as much an advantage.

Currently I am again very close to struggle with what happened here so. The situation is somewhat tricky, and I can not foresee how it will go. After
I still am for the Circulos de lectores - teatreros responsible Pucará, closer to the offer for children, which we are hosting on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the aim of the children reading and writing, being creative and the presentations. Successes are coming, but this is no longer surprising when you look at how the existing training program looks like: At school placed high value on drill, memorization and to parrot. Creativity seems rather fight than expected and encouraged to be. Accordingly, we start from nothing, and the freedom that we prefer the drill, is used quite happy.

Apart of this activity, which occurs in only two afternoons a week, getting involved as possible in Periódico INTAG . In the Sunday showing a number for the first time an item is to be read by me, and in the coming days and weeks I will be expected to reflect Article translated into German, so that the assets readers will not find in Germany news from Intag, without seeking this level of English to have. But working with the newspaper charged me not much.

course, I could say that the current situation is great: it gives me enough time to observe nature here in peace and enjoy to be able to relax and chat with me and encouraged the people can do to make trips, and so more of the country to know! And I try always to see things this way - to appreciate the positive and clear the doubts aside. But, I really do not succeed! I know that I can be here only to other people's expense and have the right to repay this support somehow. With a meaningful project!

There are two ideas for my work in Pucará that make sense in my eyes.
The first is a small library. In the old Casa Comunal that stands empty for years, would be enough space available to set up a small library. This would require the building to be renovated and furnished accordingly. Interesting for me alone because I could plan and coordinate the renovations, and design the future appearance of the library - a great exercise for me as an architecture student! For the Circulos de lectores - teatreros a suitable environment for the children and young people Pucarás a good extension of the poor educational provision and medium-to long-term work for maybe two pucareños . The case has two hooks: The first is money. Just the renovation will cost us some three thousand dollars, added money for furniture and books, and later for jobs with computer. Through platforms such betterplanet.com likely that most of these costs can be financed, and I hope for Christmas routine donations from Germany, once the big drum is agitated. But here's the second catch: We do not have any planning. The building is on the school grounds and therefore belongs to the Ministry of Education. Which we want a guarantee that we can use the building - to be able to safely leave, that we will pay the costs of renovation and also benefit yourself. Say: This is not the end of the school principal and "reclaim their" library without having bent a finger to have. Before this security is not there, I will not compete for donations. And as long as no donations are there, we can not start with the project. Unfortunately, it is more difficult than expected to get a commitment from the Ministry of Education: I could take care not about me, as a foreigner of no fixed address and no links to the Ministry, I have no control, no contact in the administration. Carolina, head of the newspaper and big proponent of the project wants to care for weeks about that one call. But either it reaches no one because it apparently worked only sporadically in the ministry, or they forget their purpose. Thus, I'm from Carolina, the presence of the authorities and ultimately dependent on their support.

The second idea for a project here comes from Peter. His desire is to educate the people in Pucará for waste separation and recycling. This project was started again - and immediately forgotten, when the then volunteer Pucará left! Peter has not forgotten this wish, however, and would be happy if I could finally put it into action. The idea itself says to me: not only to understand the residents Pucarás finally, that plastic bottles and bags is dangerous for them and their environment, but also because with its own waste separation possible to make money, this is absolutely necessary: there are companies that buy up the plastic waste and pay per pound! So we could set up a fund from which may be paid such as drugs, which are sorely needed here: diabetes, prostate disease and osteoporosis are here something like common diseases, and good medicines are in short supply. The problem with this project is quite simple: Peter is too rare in Pucará! I would not begin to familiarize myself with the issues, do the planning and end up with the certainty that the project will fail to leave. Rather, I consider that I Peter, who lives so far, at least sporadically here, can only support. Currently, however, this would be reversed, Peter can not contribute more than supportive.

I can say right now is not whether one can both possible and potentially useful projects are implemented. Equally skeptical I face the coming weeks and months. What if I still only do what I do now? Moreover, the little help that we offer here is often not appreciated and therefore useless, as you can see the example of the English school: in the meantime Andenbärprojekt are new volunteers, all of which no English and speak English are interested in a few hours. I was with them and set two of the four teachers and related dates agreed: On Monday evening the first hour would be held. Of the two teachers appeared not.

There is thus a discrepancy between words and actions of those who should benefit from the English school: While there was no possible students, I was often asked how we could get to work for the English teachers to these to practice and course to help money. And finally offers the opportunity to provide English instruction fails again all about the dependability of teachers. This is run after my delight, the teachers, to organize workshops and to promote students, not just bigger ... well

Finally it all ends in a vicious cycle: the anger about the situation on the ground means that if possible I am not in Pucará and, recently, going away. My absence means that nothing happened, what frustrates me when I returned to Pucará and would have an incentive to travel at the best right back. So that's at least for now: After a week on the coast I was a week here last weekend to go to Cayambe and from there to the thermal baths visiting from Papallacta. Now I will be only through Friday Pucará because I'm going to spend the weekend in Quito, where I will meet on Sunday, my true love. Julian, with whom I have worked in Nicaragua and in Berlin is my neighbor almost come to Ecuador for two weeks and is distracted by his presence during labor and slosigkeit. As long as Julian is here and Ecuador meets - a journey that is scheduled yet, I will report in soon! - To all readers was down this cultural tidbits to the heart. Despite my pleas

at the beginning of this record - the doubt the doubt - I hope that its caused by the last paragraph is not too much of my integrity questioned: Somehow I icg so in view of the whole situation and keep the desperation of water and the laughter ...
