Zanzibar
did on the last day of the year 2009 I made the trip to Zanzibar. On the one hand to celebrate New Year there and secondly to go out on my intermediate seminar, which took place there in the first week of the new year. Together with Albert and Mara, a volunteer of the Waldorf School in Nairobi, I'm on the ferry 2 hours from Dar es Salaam went to Stone Town. Without a plan where I celebrate the new year and will spend the night I arrived in Stone Town. I got a completely different city than I had known in Tanzania. A historic city center, with houses that were built from coral stone, narrow alleyways and all in an Arabic style, which is rather an unusual kind for Africa. In the alleys of Stone Town is full of life and from all Arab Taarab music was heard. After several information we learned then that should be in the north of the island's largest party, so I'm with the other two then just went with a Dalla Dalla to the northernmost village of the island of Nungwi and there have searched for a hotel. Just 100 meters up to the stand and when I saw this beautiful beach I'm in for a surprise come out. An exhibit of a picture book. Powdered sugar white sandy beach, turquoise water where you could still see clearly with more than one meter of water the soil. Coincidentally, we are there at the stand taken directly to other volunteers with whom we had together then even the intermediate seminar. In the evening we went to the party's Eve, a huge party under a full moon on the beach. Of course were only tourists here and there before me was very strange to suddenly be only in white. There I fell heavily on the contrast between rich and poor. On the beaches were all the hotels in which Mausche designed only to luxury goods and directly behind the local population with extended their huts in their villages. That seemed very strange and it has given me to thinking. Nevertheless, the New Year's Eve party a hit with a major event, because after the first hour in the New Year there was a Tränengasarttake directly on the dance floor. It was said that the neighbor will be jealous of the successful party, read, however, affect any of these Arttake and after a while the dance floor was full again. In the New Year I went for a very long time once again been diving. I could not wait and it was worth it! With the English Dive Center, I went on a day trip with two dives. With a boat, it went to the Mnemba Iceland Marine Park, where it was then down into the underwater world with a depth of 20 to 25 meters past the coral walls with many soft corals and the most colorful reef fish. Both dives I have enjoyed, for the Indian Ocean is easily the largest aquarium in the world and then we were accompanied also still on the way to and from dolphins. From the North we went to the east of the island after Mchamwi to my intermediate seminar. Together with the other volunteers I'm there and have seen five theme eingetrudelt full days. Under palm trees in a relaxed atmosphere, we have actively worked in Banda variety of topics. Such issues as the meaning of the Weltwärts program or the sense of our own service in a developing country. We gave you our experiences, we experienced before, and the deal replaced and reflected. Here I saw, among other things that I was not the only one who experienced this many new impressions. Together we have looked at the time to come, what is to come and what you can do still. On the whole, the seminar has really helped me and I have once more become richer experience. After the seminar I have yet taken a spice tour in Zanzibar because Zanzibar is renowned for its spices. In a spice farm, I got a picture where the many spices such as cloves, ginger, vanilla, pepper, sesame seeds are ever here and last but not least there was a full meal with a spicy Swahili Spice Tea. I did not quite stomach pains, pains of the seminar dinner with some must have been in order, and so I gave our guide soaked cloves which have actually helped me. With renewed energy and motivation then I went back after a night in Stone Town by ferry back to Dar es Salaam and the following Monday I headed back to school myself.
