Próspero año nuevo!
SO ALL WHITE was not the Ecuadorian Christmas. At least not in the traditional sense. But here it was foggy - and thus also know, somehow. For cookies, we had just taken care of and the people impressed Pucarás with coconut macaroons, cinnamon and heath sand. What else? There was no church service on Christmas Eve, and the mess has been quite small. But even here, far from home and far away from the traditions that we maintain every year in the family, Christmas was nice!
On Christmas Eve have Polly, Nora and I cooked and ate delicious. Nora and I were indeed struck, but red and mulled wine did not we do without. On the first Christmas Day we went to the feast, now Nora was gone to Quito, to receive her family visit, were it to Leni and Catherine arrived two other YAP volunteers in Pucará. On Boxing Day, were five volunteers from Tabacundo where I had celebrated my birthday in November. It was delicious vegetable lasagna and at the end of the evening were all well fed and happy!
live since Christmas Eve, Polly and I in Peter's estate. Peter is right now - again - not in Pucará and had offered to me, let me here his keys. I was ambivalent for a while something that I would not like to be with my family. But when I then within a week, after I had taken quite a brutal anti-parasite tablets, was sick again, my joy was gone on the Ecuadorian food and my fairly simple accommodation for now I wanted to get out of the rest of family to me alone to.
and appears to have red wine and all the delicious food worked wonders: What are all the teas and magic not managed to reach the European diet - I'm re-established so far! Here, the last days were not only relaxing: two of the guests from Tabacundo were pretty obnoxious and a bit difficult to handle, so I was quite relieved that they destroyed only one goal on Peter's Cottages and otherwise caused no damage had. Perhaps we see from the fact that people of similar age, from similar social backgrounds and geographical backgrounds can be very different. (At least I've not yet met a German volunteer who would behave ...)
Tomorrow I will meet me in Otavalo with Peter, hand him the keys to his country house, and then with him, a group of students from the United States and Polly after Morochos drive. This place is situated at the foot of Cotacachi, and Peter has held various projects that he supports the community. I myself know the village yet, but indications seem to Peters indigenous culture and tradition there have to be very important.
Until the latter part of January we will stay in Morochos, then we all come back to Pucara, where is Peter's group for four days. I will in any way be responsible for them and accordingly a few days are busy. Annika is also a friend from Germany to visit, and my Christmas dinner with the family stands out as well. A full program during the first days of the new year!
Next, on the fifth or sixth of January, I will leave with Annika to the south, we go to Bolivia! What exactly do we look in Peru and Bolivia, we do not know, but I am sure that we have a lot of new places and faces can see, hear lots of stories and information during the month, we will be traveling together! Where possible there will be while they are traveling to new blog entries, though less frequently.
Until then - all the best for the new year, you all a happy new year!

long ago before Columbus thought he had discovered India and extinguished in the wake a horde of murderous and thieving Spaniard whole peoples and their cultures, lived in the region, which is now called "Intag" and located in the western foothills of the Ecuadorian Andes, the stem of Yumbos. Supposedly they also came across tunnel systems and other things, allow us to imagine that today's population Pucarás in terms of wealth and infrastructure, - sir! - Can not keep up with the settlers and settlers centuries ago.
A few findings are still in the possession of the (involuntary) treasure hunter: My current host father Don Jaime has, for example including two fully intact clay pots, which look like small carafes. Others have converted their alleged discoveries into cash - So houses were made of gold beads with time Japanese pick-ups or two-story. And some of the treasures, it is said, actually made its way into museums!

If the Fund ancient treasures at the time led to resentment among the families Pucarás? There has been disagreement about what to do with the gems? May have enriched some of the parties at the expense of others? Was perhaps for a short time here instead of a real gold rush, with all the greed and speculation and cunning - and its beneficiaries have been a guilty conscience?
If it really is that easy to push on ceramics and jewelry of the Yumbos - why no one tries to earn money? Peter told me to start my time here that he every time he was working in the fields, come across at least on clay. On Thursday, the gentlemen were supposed to be in Pucara, and we were very curious: Would archaeologists now day and night (and, above all in the rain) sit in a surrounded by caution tape plot, and after with shovels and small brush a layer of earth the other away and to thereby bring a mix of Jurassic Park and Machu Picchu to light? Instead: nothing! No one came.
On Demand Carolinas was told then that it is a pleasure to ready to be visiting Pucará and analyze the situation - alone, they had no car and must therefore be picked up in Quito. (The State servants and public servants are certainly not paid poorly, and the way from Quito to Pucará costs three U.S. dollars sixty.)
For Christmas I would like a Yumboschatz, including golden sarcophagus of the Great Yumbokönigspaar. If not turn up the ladies and gentlemen of the Instituto Nacional de Patrimonio Cultural , I will make myself with a spade from bringing the past to light Pucarás! And the museum will then end up quite certainly nothing like this ...

Advent Advent, the sun is burning! Since
Again is the last post back a long way and it is a bit of what happened. The approaching end of Christmas draws the streets with all sorts of decorations and the stores are visited more. For me and 48 other wwf was an intermediate seminar on the neighboring island of Cebu. There was the opportunity for our situation here with the help of others and reflect each other useful input for the remainder Give time. We are also busy taking part in a "Do not harm" Training and visited a nearby children's home in which two volunteers.
I took the opportunity to advance even to the south of Negros know. So a round trip led to many new experiences, among others, the city of Cebu City, the second largest city in the Philippines.
From here I will speak a few pictures ...

New Family 4.0
AS ANY MONTH I also have the beginning of December once again changed my host family. Now I live about twenty minutes' walk below Pucará. My host parents are Jaime Jativa, 53 years old, and his wife Ceyda, 39 years old and four months pregnant. My host brothers and sisters are Gabriela, 14, Francisco 12, Narcisa, 11, Ruth, 7, Diego, 4 and Pamela, 2 1 / 2. The names of the two dogs that were initially pretty aggressive, I have not noticed me.
After nearly a week in the family Jativa I feel very well: All are curious and like to talk with me and the children are very lively and funny - just cute. Once I even move me to , Let me to see with the family every evening novela , an insanely cheesy and exaggerated television series: The offer I simply could not refuse, as nice as I was asked!
that the family is so cute, makes some bets. That there is no shower and I wash with a bucket, for example. Or that way here at the current weather is a single mud. Or that there is not a washboard, but only two less rather than more suitable for washing stones. And that I will be here really stung the first time in at least four months now. Whether it's at my tormentors by fleas or mosquitoes is, I do not know - I hope the latter, assume, however, that my hopes are in vain. (And if there are fleas - then I'll just three or four weeks are bitten, before also available ...)
Don Jaime and Doña Ceyda are very courteous and meet each other very respectfully. You Siezen, despite the many years they have been living together. Even her children Siezen, and me anyway, I will by very few people here speak you, but what strikes me hardly because they generally have been here siezt. (Even many dogs are gesiezt ...) Despite the short time that Don Jaime spent in school - meet four years should be - my host father made seemingly Unlike many people with whom I had been in contact: He knows at least a rough assessment of many political and historical events and seems to have emerged through the reading, making it a very pleasant and interesting interlocutor. Doña Ceyda is more reserved and jump to page Jaime especially if I have questions about specific recipes or other budget issues.
Gabriela (Gabi), the eldest, now lives apparently only for the household. She finished primary school two years ago and then had the opportunity to go to secondary school after Apuela what they refused to do: but they would not. Until they next spring back to school - Narcisa (Nacha) is about to end the seven-year primary school and will soon pass by Gabi Apuela - they will continue to support her mother, cook, wash, make sure peace. Because of their employment, they do not affect me as an adolescent who is in the midst of puberty ...
Nacha, Francisco (Pancho) and Roth go to school in Pucará. The older two are both very funny and laugh at every joke that act on the other hand often serious and quiet - unlike Ruth, Diego and Pamela, play a lot and make noise, and often a funny sight.
completely different that was in my last family: There I spoke only with my host mother, Gloria, because her husband Lauro mostly in his room and was watching TV and the kids looked at me, often with big eyes, but immediately behind any wall or behind her mother disappeared, if I do anything asked . So completely I liked this, and something better was the strange picture of these children not as they told me that they always (!) Are Sun Whether this is related to what you told me about Lauro: Gloria that he had previously always pretty beat up this boy, I do not know. And I will not learn, I suppose.
Aside from my new host family and the outrageous bad weather in Pucará everything as always. I stick with small jobs and extensive online newspaper reading above water. I will also soon may play in the football team Pucarás when I can because I have no pimples and cleated shoes, which will supposedly lead to one game to give me permission. I too have had the Ecuadorian nationality, as is claimed. We'll see!
On Monday Karen comes to Pucará and is one weeks stay here. Karen I only know from e-mail: You want to know Pucará and its inhabitants and will take English classes in the English school. My job will it be to supply them with work in the morning, which puts me to shame now. But there is a - hopefully reasonable! - Find solutions.
Christmas Eve I'm going to spend all likelihood, with a few volunteers here in Pucará. So I will be here almost the entire month and not, as in November, weekly cut off. I'm so far very good: It's a pleasure every day to enjoy the peace and quiet here and talk to people here about God and the world! And every weekend of the new Bundesliga record start to be developed: Since must be the mood so well!

Música Entre los que quieran
ON THE LAST WEEKEND I went to Quito in order to witness at least part of this year's fiestas de Quito . More specifically, I had said it in for the concert at Calle 13, which should be flown in from Puerto Rico to play in the south of the Ecuadorian capital. Besides the fact that my Music Calle 13 anyway like it, I thought the visit of the concert, as necessary, as I get to the music I everywhere here on the ears, have to suffer now pretty. The same old San Juanitos I found during my first days in the country still quite nice, agree with her but quickly became bored. The always very slushy Bachatas I could still hear quite well initially, because they always let me think of Nicaragua, where Bachatas also enjoyed great popularity. But over time I simply can not understand why it is not here, as in Europe, are different tastes, but a single mush! (Of course there are exceptions, so people who bear the Ecuadorian mainstream no longer, and move on to other genres of music - but are a tiny minority!) Particular blatantly dropped me in Quito: There came together under the fiestas many young people on the streets to dance together to drink. Who had a car, brought this up, opened all the doors and put the music on full volume. It lined up so a huge number of cars to each other, each with a different song, so that the dancers had their labor of love, to be brought not by the music from the adjacent vehicles from the clock. Remarkable and terrible at the same time, I found that without exception all cars from songs, and roared the same genre: Reggaeton ! The texts belonging to the sentient Reggaeton artists are often contemptuous of women and promote a lifestyle in which money, cars and drugs play an important role. That is in this video a distinguished Hiphip crew from Berlin not much else - is still at this point a little advertising for me, not made entirely unknown young (women and) men!
Return to Quito.
The match between Ecuador and Venezuela, which I visited with Julian a few weeks ago, I came with a Quiteño in conversation, offered me to be able to live with him whenever I get to Quito. This offer did not reject me, so I, along with Marco and Polly, with Luis, the name of the young man who accommodated. Luis is the owner of a small swimming pool with sauna, just south of the city center. His company is in the ground floor of a multistory building accommodated, the rest of the house is still empty: Luis and his parents are planning to set up a hotel there. Until this plan is implemented in practice, the upper floors will probably continue to be either site or guest room.
On Friday night we drove four of the airport and ran from there to the plaza de toros , the bullring, passing to the reggaeton-car street party. To the bull ring was around a lot going on, the audience was a bit unusual: people in evening dress, which did not try to hide only that they are financially not too badly. And why, when ticket prices of sixty or more dollars? The street party was to be considered interesting: Everywhere the car with the same old music, dancing and drunken people everywhere, and so many pedestrians on the street that was impossible to get through everything for other road users and public transport. Spectacular had the airplanes anflogen just above the heads of the airport!
On Saturday I finally got to meet Julie. I have known for about twenty years and we had planned to meet us again here in Ecuador: Julie is also about "weltwärts" in Ecuador and worked in northern Quito. More is on her work here read. In the evening we went to the south, to the concert Calle 13 Quitumbe. The coaches there were completely overcrowded, it was sung songs by Calle 13, initiated at the bus driver - the atmosphere was excellent! However, we were all afraid that the concert would have been so crowded that no other visitors more inlet would be granted. But this concern was unfounded: we still found space on the festival site, although we are not very close approached to the stage.
The concert itself was beautiful. The mood, however, was rather depressing: The pauses between the pieces seemed like minutes of silence, and at the sight of the people around me, I had my can, that any kind movement would be prohibited. But what gave the band on stage compensated us fully for the trip to Quito residents, the singer of the band with the real name René Pérez said, is like his style a lot about politics, oppression, media, propaganda - and created one or the other fun insert. After nearly two hours, the concert ended and I with the forces at the end, but satisfied.

1 Year Old 96.5 Temperature
THE LAST CENSUS in the Federal Republic of Germany took place one thousand nine hundred eighty-seven, which was the most recent census in the former DDR has even been carried out six years earlier. There are therefore at present no exact data on the population and the exact composition of the population of Germany. Due to incorrect or missing information of emigrants, as well as undocumented immigrants, the actual population differs probably in the hundreds of thousands on the number, which must be read in almanacs and statistics.
Given the fact that Germany has been over twenty or almost thirty years, the Census saved because only the tests conducted in West Germany the equivalent of about half a billion has (!) Cost €, it may seem surprising that Ecuador every ten years such action does! Last Sunday it was again so far: The much heralded censo 2010 had already in advance caused a stir because the entire population was encouraged to stay of seven clock in the morning to five clock in the afternoon at home, not to drink alcohol - the ley seca , the "dry law" was up from Friday night Monday at zero Clock in force - to wait until people get past the counter. Counting and questioning, especially students of secondary schools and their teachers were assigned. Entirely sure I can play but not what was being asked, I sat all day in the coldest and darkest apartment in Ecuador, a few volunteers in Otavalo rent, and waited in vain to make my statements to be allowed.
reportedly were all asked people what gender and what ethnic group they feel they belong (!), How old they are, what education level they have achieved, how much they earn, what languages they speak and so much more. I find it interesting that the first two questions do not belong on the counter inside and meters, but was actually asked. Peter, the whitest inhabitants Pucarás has allegedly stated to be black or to feel black. And for such jokes then life is a whole country one day flat, probably spent half of development cooperation funds year age group.
The long wait was a bit annoying, especially since it was obvious nothing. But endure it was in any case. What really shocked me, has the Círculo de lectores was - teatreros yesterday: The children were required to do it again to a theater with puppets. I would not deny them - but they can not, as the last time to improvise: These were so far always wrestling between donkeys and sheep about, which I thought was not very witty. So yesterday, the devising of a "screenplay" was on the program. And it worked at all: The children have claimed - and I would think that even - that they are neither in school or anywhere else ever had to invent a story! Since it is an almost impossible task to devise a play! I was then really scared and a little depressed, how little imagination the children. Let alone that they never called in this direction have been supported. We all have a long way to go, and I hope that this work will continue in the coming years so that the children have Pucarás a way to at least train their imagination a little! find
